“Formless Forms, New Visions — 2026 Members’ Exhibition of the Taichung Ciying Calligraphy and Painting Association” centers on the tradition of Chinese calligraphy and ink painting, presenting diverse artistic expressions within a contemporary context. The exhibition features a wide range of works, including calligraphy, ink landscapes, bird-and-flower subjects, figure painting, and color ink, demonstrating the ongoing development and transformation of brush-and-ink art today.

The theme, “Formless Forms, New Visions,” is inspired by the Daoist concept of “the form of the formless” from the Dao De Jing. It emphasizes that artistic creation is not merely a representation of external appearances, but a process of expressing inner spirit and cultivating poetic resonance. Rooted in traditional brush-and-ink techniques, the exhibited works incorporate the artists’ observations of life, environment, and the contemporary world, giving rise to visual expressions that exist between the tangible and the intangible.

In terms of artistic approach, the works range from expressive freehand styles to refined and meticulous techniques, revealing diverse variations in brush rhythm and spatial composition. In addition, the exhibition features selected award-winning works (Merit Prize and above) from the “Taichung Harbor Technology Industrial Park Ciying Cup Calligraphy Competition,” organized by the Association. These works highlight the role of calligraphy not only as an art form, but also as a cultural medium that fosters intergenerational connection through education and public engagement.
