In the current time when global art contexts change rapidly and values continuously evolve, art has transcended single aesthetics to become a vital language that connects reality with imagination, as well as history with the future. Since its establishment in 2000, the "Taiwan Emerging Art Awards" have been dedicated to discovering creative potential and encouraging an experimental spirits. In 2016, the award removed restrictions on medium, dimensions, and age, offering artists more freedom of expression. These changes have gradually laid the foundation for its key role in the development of contemporary art in Taiwan.
The 2025 Taiwan Emerging Art Awards continues this spirit, serving as an incubator for artistic innovation and experimentation. It encourages young creators to respond to profound issues of society, culture, and the environment with free thinking and cross-disciplinary expression, opening up new possibilities for dialogue between art and the world.
This year, 46 selected works highlight the diverse perspectives and profound reflections of Taiwan's emerging artists. The artists use the body as a carrier of perception, creating sentimental language rooted in personal experience and directly addressing social issues - from the aerial roots of banyan trees and the gaze of plants to the scent of rooms and fragments of time. They employ painting, installation, sound, spatial design, as well as AI and new media to depict artistic landscapes of memory, gender, spirituality, and urban experience. The artists blend classical techniques with contemporary expressions, reconstructing sensory and spatial experiences to deconstruct cultural symbols and identity, while reimagining the narrative tensions between memory and imagination. These works break the boundaries of form and language, challenging habitual ways of seeing and positioning art as a means to re-understand both reality and the self.
These artists works are not only explorations of art language but also extensions of cultural vision - using innovation as a brush, perception as ink, and AI as a new medium to depict the rich and diverse life stories of contemporary Taiwan. We sincerely invite viewers to step into their creative worlds, and, amidst the flows, displacements, and reconstructions, witness how new art continues to emerge in this very time and place, unfolding infinite possibilities for the future.
