Art originates from life; moreover, it is the projection and extension of emotion. Serene Colors –PEI-LAN CHEN Western Painting Exhibition brings together years of her artwork, showcasing a stylistic transformation from realism to deconstruction, along with multiple-exposure overlapping effects, inviting viewers to step into a soft and ethereal landscape of the mind.

Using the paintbrush as an outlet to reignite her passion for life, Pei-Lan’s journey over her more than a decade of painting has not always been smooth. She once lost her drive and enthusiasm for art, only to later rediscover her original intention before the canvas. Whenever she picks up her brush, her mind settles; each exhibition also serves as an opportunity to view herself at different stages of life from a new perspective. In the world of painting, transitioning from figurative representation to dreamlike scenes where the virtual and the real intertwine, she no longer merely depicts physical objects. Instead, she transforms daily moments and emotions into whispers on the canvas, using joyful and unrestrained strokes to compose her own personal sentiments.

Since her days as an art student, she has had a special fondness for the theme of the sky. Her work, Ethereal Silk, features irregular clouds and warm, sunset-like orange hues, presenting a poetic and dreamlike skyscape. It captures the feeling of looking up at the sky after work, where fatigue is instantly dispelled and the spirit is gently cleansed.

In the past two years, her creative focus has shifted to floral themes, evolving from her previous figurative depictions to a romantic and serene style. Her piece, Illusory Flower Whispers, uses the rose as its subject alongside abstract floral forms. Through dreamy, delicate lines and overlapping effects, it presents an entirely different facet of flowers. The blooms from life's memories are transformed into scenes of dreams and poetry, interweaving to create afterimages that seem to sway within a dream.

Through soft colors, flowing brushstrokes, and the reflection of a clear mind, this exhibition hopes to initiate a healing spiritual dialogue with the audience. We welcome the public to visit the Taichung City Seaport Art Center to share in this touching experience born from everyday life.
