The 2024 Taiwan Emerging Art Awards｜Taichung City Seaport Art Center

Since its inception in 2000, the Taiwan Emerging Art Awards has continuously supported the creative spirit in art. As a prestigious award in Taiwan’s artistic community, we ceaselessly discover outstanding artists, thereby catalyzing the creative momentum of art in Taiwan. In 2016, the Taiwan Emerging Art Awards made significant changes, such as cancelling restrictions on certain mediums and dimensions, in addition to age limits. As a result, the award-winning works in recent years have become even more diverse.

Taiwan is an island rich in culture. Carrying diverse art heritage, it continues to give rise to art movements that resonate with society. The cultural depth serves as a critical driving force for the Taiwan Emerging Art Awards; it is also an important part of Taiwan’s soft power. Especially in recent years after the Covid-19 pandemic, in this challenging era, artists show their reflections on external environments and their explorations of inner worlds through the making of art. They utilize their artworks to respond to the issues of this generation.

This year, we have selected 43 wonderful artworks, which allow us to witness the evolution of Taiwanese artists in their choice of mediums and the issues they focus on. These artists not only demonstrate rich and detailed dialectical thinking, but also break the boundaries of single mediums. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, they integrate mixed media and new media tools, and even use artificial intelligence to explore human emotions, consciousness, and deep spiritual connections. The perfect combination of technology and art provides viewers with a new sensory experience, particularly for the eyes. These creations are not only reflections on individual microcosms but also visions for the future world.

We sincerely thank all the participating artists and jurors. The selected works will be on display at the Taichung City Seaport Art Center this summer. We believe these artists will continue to paint more profound life stories for the island of Taiwan with their unique artistic language.
