A brief summary of the life and work of Master Ni Xin:

Master Ni Xin was born in 1960 and, after facing a life-threatening illness, he read the Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch and made a vow to build a temple to benefit all beings.

In May 1999, the Sixth Patriarch Zen Temple was completed and Master Ni Xin was ordained in 2003.

Master Ni Xin writes short verses (shuji) to share his insights with visitors who seek his guidance, and he posts these verses on the walls of the temple. These verses are meant to awaken people's hearts and minds.

Master Ni Xin also writes shuji on paper, using ink donated by a visitor. He distributes these verses to people during the Chinese New Year, often using their names or company names to personalize the message. Although his handwriting may not be aesthetically pleasing, he emphasizes the importance of the message over the form.

In 2018, someone gave Master Ni Xin a truckload of camphor wood, which inspired him to write shuji on wood. He held an exhibition at a vegetarian restaurant on Zhongqing Road in 2020, and in February 2023, he held a shuji exhibition at the Sixth Patriarch Zen Temple.

Master Ni Xin is grateful for the opportunities he has had to share his work with others, especially since he was not very good at calligraphy when he was young. He encourages people to keep striving to improve themselves, and he is thankful for the encouragement he has received from people who have appreciated his work over the past two decades. Master Ni Xin hopes to continue spreading his messages of wisdom, compassion, and gratitude to all those who are open to receiving them.
