Mr. Tsao wei-chu was born in An-qiu County, Shandong Province, the Republic of China in 1913. He majored in literature in college. After the World War II, he crossed the sea from mainland China to Taiwan, and he continued to work on education, painting and calligraphy.

Since 1960, he has served as the principal of Provincial Cing-shuei Senior High School for 20 years, making the high school a well-known institution in Taichung's coastal area.

He won the third "National Literature and Art Award" in 1977, and died in 1980.

The "Grandmaster: Literati Artist Tsao wei-chu Memorial Exhibition" is sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City, and Madam Tsao Tian-yun ,daughter of Principal Tsao, who provided the assistance to the exhibition, hoping to promote the public  understanding of the history of Chinese painting and calligraphy which takes root in the coastal areas of Taichung City.
