Oil painting has played a very important role in the development of Western art history. From classical techniques to contemporary painting, the medium of oil painting has been a favorite medium for art creators because of its diverse techniques and expressiveness. Art creation originates from life, and through the creator's experience, the creator presents the current situation and concerns of life in beautiful forms and techniques and, more importantly, conveys the value of the creator's inner thinking. The National Large-sized Oil Paintings Exhibition is entering its 22nd edition, and the large size of the exhibition encourages creators to continuously accumulate and sublimate the creative energy of oil paintings. This year's jury consists of members Chao Lung Ni (convener), Li-Fa Shaih, Yen-Nang Yang, Avah Hsueh, Min-Chung Chuang, Chin Hsien Lin and Pen-Shen Liao. The jury members are all professors of art departments at universities and famous national painters, who selected the best works from different perspectives and contemporary creative thinking. After the first-stage preliminary review and the second-stage re-examination, multiple votes and discussions in the review of descriptions and original works, the top three, the six honorable mentions and the 21 finalists were selected. Now, we would like to give our comments on the top three winning works: The first place goes to Chi-Yun Chang's "Original Heart Like a Laughter", which uses delicate description techniques to express the innocence of children realistically, combining the childish scenes of flowers and carousel horses. The theatrical form is reconstructed by using bright and saturated colors and blooming flowers to convey the freshness and joy of children under the light. The second place goes to Chia-Yu Yu's "Let me become holy from this sickness unto death". The author's reflections on Christianity and his own life, on the relationship between people, things, objects and himself. Taking characters as the theme and using his good descriptive skills, the author alludes to the entanglement and transformation of life during growth through the combination of the characters' expressions and objects, and conveys the inner emotions and refraction of life. The third place goes to "Two Roads" by Yi-Tsung Lai. The author uses two roads that never intersect as a metaphor for the choices and helplessness in life, presenting a real-life dilemma with rough brushstrokes and textures and conveying how people think about how to choose the future in the face of loneliness and difficulties. The road is full of expectations and longings. Although the number of entries in the competition was slightly reduced due to the advancement of the exhibition, the jury carefully selected the works with unique appearances and creativity from the entries. From the above top three works and the six honorable mentions, we can see the diversity of the winning works. From realistic to abstract, the works are described and explored by different oil painting techniques, from life refraction, social observation and current issues, all of which are the contents of the creators' descriptions. How to put forward one's own point of view on ordinary and common issues, resonate and find common emotions in the collective consciousness of everyone are all issues that creators have to think about. Artists should understand their own characteristics and find the best voice for contemporary art, so that any creative artistic language is possible. The National Large-sized Oil Paintings Exhibition is to discover these creative artists. We are glad to see this year's excellent paintings and expect more amazing works next year. Let's wait and see.
