Highest Ambition, Brilliant Prospect: Chang, Chih Hung solo calligraphy exhibition｜Taichung City Seaport Art Center

This time, the "Highest Ambition, Brilliant Prospect" exhibited at Taichung City Seaport Art Center is my solo exhibition of calligraphy creation. This title is an encouragement from Dr. Zi-Chen Shi, a respected mentor during my study at the Department of Fine Arts, Chinese Culture University. All his words of encouragement are still remembered deeply in my heart.

The classical tradition of calligraphy is a form to show the artworks in this exhibition. There are also freehand brushstrokes that express personality and passion via wielding writing brushes. All ink is blended during writing lines, so style with layers changes abundantly, which creates an unexpected visual beauty. This kind of artwork constructs the context and expression space between classical tradition and modern calligraphy and even writes out of the traditional form box and frees the brush and ink. This is always my creative orientation, which presents a unique brush and ink-related fun, rhyme, and painting via significant characters' text shape and spatial layout.

The beauty of calligraphy artwork is written wholeheartedly. Most of the artwork's content is connected to feelings from life, including words and phrases, and is touched by some literature, like verses in poetry and inspirational quotes. Many artworks from this exhibition are related to sentences with "heart", which means "set out from the heart".

To be more specific, various media are used in this calligraphy exhibition. Some characters are written with enamel glaze on steel plates and can be placed outdoors after firing into an artwork. Some artwork even involves technological framing methods like LED lights and laser engraving. Genuine leather is also used as the material. After writing the characters, they are embossed into relief-like visual effects via leather's good breathability and elasticity. This combining calligraphy and leather artwork is put into daily life, just like the "clock".

All artwork implements the creation concept of artistic life and alive art. For instance, an enamel calligraphy artwork can be placed outdoors. The painting per se is a light source when combined with LED lights. The symbol of a "clock" is expressed in the combination of leather and calligraphy. Through various media and living technology, the viewers can not only enjoy watching the beauty of classical and modern characters but also feel calligraphy's diverse aesthetics of life.
